Tehrik-e Nifaz-e Shariat-e Muhammadi (TNSM)

The group is based on extremist militant interpretation of Wahabi ideology to implement Shariah especially in Malakand Division and generally allover Pakistan. The group was founded by Sufi Muhammad in 1992 and rose to prominence in 1994, when it led an uprising in Malaknd division form Sharia implementation. The group was banned on January 12, 2002 by the Pakistani government, but remained active. The reigns were eventually taken over by Fazalullah, Sufi Muhammad’s son-in-law. After an army operation in Swat during 2009, the arrest of Sufi Muhammad and with Fazalullah disappearing; there has been a huge setback for the organization.
